Cisco employs more than 3,000 people in the UK, operating at the cutting edge of technology. The company prides itself on its inclusiveness and encourages a very open culture where people are encouraged to speak their mind and push the boundaries.
When a recent survey showed that younger groups felt that their voice wasn’t being heard the company immediately brought younger employees and leaders much more closely together. But rather than a hierarchical mentoring initiative, they reversed the process, with younger members of staff mentoring a senior executive.
Cisco is improving cross-generational awareness all the time. Leaders have an increased awareness of how younger members of staff think – increasingly, that covers the attitude of many of their customers too – and how they adopt and use technology, and choose to send and receive information.
